Cancer Partners of Nebraska is seeking a full-time Health Information Management (HIM) Manager to help carry out it's mission of providing outstanding patient care. This role is responsible for the overall leadership of the department. Day to day operations consists of a variety of duties including planning, organizing, and managing electronic and paper clinical content, electronic data integrity, accessibility, use, and protection of health information.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that medical records are completed, accurate, and maintained at a high level of quality and conformance to accepted standards established by Cancer Partners of Nebraska policies and procedures, accrediting agency, State and Federal regulatory agencies; reporting any variations noted and new regulations or requirements, in accordance with standard Medical Records practice.
  • Supervises the checking of charts for deficiencies.
  • Leads a team of highly engaged members thru hiring, orienting, performance assessment and management, motivating, training, scheduling, and coaching to meet department goals and ensure effective and efficient department operation.
  • Supervises and monitors the release of confidential information in accordance with rules and regulations, and state statutes of privileged information for requests from insurance companies, attorneys, patients and subpoenas.
  • Analyzes and updates as needed, the departmental policies, goals, objectives, procedures and the overall record keeping/retrieval systems and practices.
  • Ensures documentation is filed in the medical records in an accurate and timely manner and ensures that the medical record is complete (including signatures) and closed within facility guidelines.
  • Maintains quality control programs to ensure data-based decision making in the performance of health information services.
  • Maintain current medical records on all clinic patients.
  • Request information from other offices/clinics and hospitals for upcoming patient visits.
  • Answer telephone and take requests for medical records or information.
  • Distribute medical information to other medical offices, insurance companies, attorney offices and other requesting entities.
  • Responsible for obtaining signed medical authorization from patients.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Other projects/responsibilities as assigned periodically by direct supervisor.

Education and Training:

  • High School degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum three years experience in health information management.
  • Preferred successful completion of certified/certificate eligible, post high school two-year Health Information Technology program or equivalent with education, experience and certification.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of and appreciation for teamwork
  • Communicates clearly and effectively in person, in writing and on the phone in the English language.
  • Thorough knowledge of HIPPA, OSHA, and other regulatory policies.
  • Ability to act in a professional and positive manner.
  • Skill in exercising high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision-making.

Schedule:

  • Day shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • No nights or weekends
